Dunno if anyone wants to hold their nose and create a profile on tiktok for wolfballs, but I was amazed to see this kind of reach promoting a reddit alternative to regular people
At the moment tbh the .wins feel messy because basically if you have a dedicated post like on the topic of “technology” and post on their tech .win, very few go to it and see it, so then you start posting on the bigger political communities which doesn’t feel right, and then other times there are topics which don’t really have a clear community to go to, plus they’ve slowed the creation of custom communities, overall leaving a kind of mixed up feel

They don’t want 50 communities dedicated to super offensive topics. Interested to see how they handle it and how their user base responds.
communities.win is great I hope they stay up. It doesn’t have any tech that makes it more resilient than other platforms. So I don’t think it should be relied on long term. Its just old reddit code like saidit.
Kind of off topic but Fediverse surfing is really fun. Connecting from user to user instance to instance and building up a personal network . Think I’m just gonna host a mastodon like instance and evangelize it. People don’t know about it. Yet the free speech community is big and fun there if you subtract most the anime accounts.
Get a cheap tablet maybe?

do people have just like burner phones they can use only for such “bad” software? I’ve kind of been doing that, using some lefty social media - I guess it’s still tied to me a bit though but I could probably do more to not have it be
true but they’re still stumbling on basics, like there’s no art, science, history, literature or books, etc. kinds of .wins, so it just gets posted in other wins or in general but no one checks general as much

I have not but I will. it works like this, You join a instance and you can see public post on that instance. lots of garbage like anime titties and hitler did nothing wrong memes but some gems in there. you find a profile you like and follow that user. you see his post and you see post they share from other users. you follow other users they share. those users can be on other instances. Those users can show you users from other instances. So you organically form this network from different instances with different codes of conduct. It works beautifully and IMO is a much richer than any Lemmy ecosystem ive seen.
the concept sounds really simple, like each user or instance is a stream and a thing you can follow, and you can just mix and match them and they can do the same to you
kind of like how our country was supposed to be a federation of states that could leave if they wanted to (but which crystallized and didn’t allow states to secede when they tried to)
